Sunrise: A Renovation Project Transforming a 50-Year-Old Residence

Creating a Sustainable and Hospitable Residential Space

It is a complete makeover from the interior to the exterior, creating a comfortable and friendly sentiment resembling a B&B or café for the hospitable house owner.

This design project, named Sunrise, is a remarkable renovation project that breathes new life into a 50-year-old residence. Led by designer Jia Ru Chen, the project sets itself apart from previous renovation designs by incorporating sustainable and eco-friendly elements. The designer took into consideration the region's humidity and opted for a refreshing white iron sheet exterior, minimizing building waste and promoting green energy values.

The Sunrise project stands out due to its innovative approach to construction materials. The use of red culture stone, iron pieces, iron net, wood-patterned bricks, and architectural concrete creates an industrial style that exudes character and uniqueness. To combat the high humidity, wood tiles were replaced with wood-patterned brick flooring on the first floor. Additionally, a light steel joust ceiling extends from the public space to the master bedroom, adding a touch of novelty to the overall design.

With a total area of 82.7 square meters, Sunrise offers a thoughtfully planned layout that maximizes space and functionality. Each room has its own theme, and the living room and dining room provide a large social space for gatherings and entertainment. The second floor features a pet-friendly area, introducing cozy and bright elements into the industrial style. This not only enhances the visual appeal of the space but also creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, making the house feel like a true home.

The internal layout planning of Sunrise incorporates arc curved walls, eliminating sharp corners and enhancing the overall comfort and flow of the space. This attention to detail ensures a smooth and enjoyable spatial experience for the residents and their guests.

The Sunrise project was completed in June 2020 in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Throughout the renovation process, extensive research and meticulous planning were conducted to address the various challenges that come with renovating an old house. From re-planning pipelines to satisfying the design needs of the homeowner, every aspect was carefully considered to achieve the perfect and ideal effect.

Recognized for its outstanding design, Sunrise was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious accolade is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Sunrise project exemplifies industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and a commitment to creating a better world.
